Responsibilities

The Director of Technology is responsible for leading the technical strategy and operations of the practice area, with a strong focus on steel detailing processes, CAD/BIM integration, and digital project delivery. This role ensures that the company leverages innovative technology to enhance detailing accuracy, workflow efficiency, and collaboration across engineering, fabrication, and construction stakeholders. The Director of Technology oversees the assessment, configuration, and maintenance of technological infrastructure systems to ensure the organization’s business needs are met.

 

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with WPM Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) and their team in the construction of a model platform to enable scalable and collaborative functionality for the organization’s future needs.
  • Collaborates with WPM CIDO and other Operating Groups on the implementation of new software applications and hardware deployments.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives to streamline detailing processes and improve interoperability between detailing, engineering, and fabrication teams.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of custom software or scripts to automate repetitive tasks and enhance model accuracy.
  • Establish, update, and enforce standards for model quality, data management, file naming, and software usage across projects, in conjunction with existing standards.
  • Consult with fabrication shops and general contractors to ensure model compatibility and coordination.

Qualifications

 

  • 15+ years of experience in technology management, preferably in steel detailing.
  • Strong working knowledge of steel detailing software (Tekla, SDS/2, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Experience with BIM coordination, cloud collaboration (e.g., Trimble Connect, BIM 360), and scripting (e.g., Python, Tekla Open API) is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Expert technical knowledge of a wide range of infrastructure technologies and methodologies
  • Expertise in large-scale infrastructure, networking architectures and virtualization technologies as well as operational models for large systems
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to mentor and lead individuals, build partnerships, and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong client-service attitude with the ability to multitask and accomplish multiple priorities
